Body Con: A Memoir of Losing, Gaining, and Escaping Diet Culture
BODY CON is the story of a daughter who spent years watching her mother’s body fail her—through four life-altering illnesses over thirteen years—and who, after losing her mother, began to distrust her own. Searching for safety and certainty, Allie turned to the wellness industry’s promise that the right diet, the right habits, and the right body could protect her from the same fate. What began as an attempt at self-care became a life-threatening eating disorder shaped by grief, fear, and a culture that profits from our belief that our bodies are problems to solve.
A memoir about loss, identity, and dismantling diet culture, BODY CON explores what happens when the pursuit of health becomes harmful, and how to heal when we’re constantly told we’re not enough. It will appeal to readers of Michelle Zauner’s CRYING IN H MART and Jennette McCurdy’s I’M GLAD MY MOM DIED.
